乾燥顔料は、さまざまな化学起源の微細な着色粒子で、多種多様な塗料に色を付けるために使用されます。昔は、アーティストが使用する顔料の大部分は天然資源からのものでした。しかし今日、現代の化学の進歩に伴い、カドミウム、コバルト、チタニュウム、有機物などの新しい顔料が加わり、アーティストのパレットは大きな変化を遂げました。
